EXHIBIT 04 · A TINY ICON, MADE MONUMENTAL

Up-Scaled Minifigures

The minifigure was designed to disappear into a larger world: small enough to inhabit a house, drive a car, or crew a spaceship. These models reverse that relationship. Enlarged many times over, the figure becomes architecture. Familiar curves must be rebuilt from slopes and brackets, simple joints become mechanisms, and printed identities become surfaces assembled one plate at a time.

Minifigure

2000 · 3723-1 · 1,850 pieces

Long before LEGO developed today’s line of up-scaled characters, 3723 Minifigure explored the idea in remarkably ambitious form. Released in 2000 and standing nearly 20 inches tall, it transformed the familiar minifigure into a large brick-built sculpture while preserving unmistakable details such as the cylindrical head, simple face, cap, and articulated arms. It was not yet the standardized up-scaled figure format that would emerge decades later, but it established the central idea behind everything that followed: the minifigure itself could become the model.
