Emmet - Lopsided Smile / Angry, Worn Uniform

Emmet’s worn construction uniform visually records the five years between the first and second LEGO Movies. Bricksburg has become Apocalypseburg, but Emmet is still trying to preserve the cheerful, ordinary identity that once made everyone dismiss him as insignificant. Scuffs and damage therefore do more than make the figure look post-apocalyptic: they place his optimism under pressure. The LEGO Movie 2 repeatedly asks whether growing up requires becoming cynical, and Emmet’s costume becomes part of that argument. He looks tougher because the world is tougher, yet the orange construction vest still identifies the same fundamentally decent builder whose greatest strength was never special power—it was believing other people were special too.
