Roller Coaster

The 2018 Roller Coaster turns gravity into spectacle. A working chain lift carries its trains to the top of the first hill before three-car trains race through a sprawling, brick-built track, while eleven minifigures transform the model into a complete amusement-park scene of riders, attendants, concessions, and spectators.

Released with more than 4,100 pieces, 10261 was part of LEGO’s Creator Expert range—the branding then used for many of the company’s largest and most sophisticated sets aimed at experienced builders. It also continued the Fairground Collection established by sets such as the Mixer and Ferris Wheel, pushing the series toward increasingly ambitious mechanical attractions. The coaster could even be motorized, turning its chain lift into a continuously operating ride.

Creator Expert would not remain on LEGO boxes much longer. As LEGO reorganized its adult-focused portfolio, the company retired the Creator Expert name and ultimately brought these advanced display models together under the LEGO Icons banner. The Roller Coaster therefore captures a particular moment in LEGO history: one of the spectacular large-scale builds from the closing years of the Creator Expert era, before the same kind of set acquired a new identity.
