Gollum - Wide Eyes

Gollum is one of fantasy literature’s most famous studies in possession. Once the hobbit-like Sméagol, centuries of isolation and dependence on the One Ring reshape his body, language, identity, and morality until even his name becomes the sound he makes. LEGO’s 2012 figure could not use a normal minifigure body; the hunched, thin, almost creature-like anatomy required a specialized form with enormous eyes and long arms. That design decision is important. Gollum is supposed to look like a person eroded by obsession, and the figure sits visually between character and creature just as the story keeps the possibility of Sméagol’s humanity alive inside him.
