LEGOLAND / 1975

LEGOLAND - White Torso, White Legs, Black Pigtails Hair

MinifiguresOfficial LEGO

Black pigtails make this 1975–76 LEGOLAND figure unusually expressive for the pre-minifigure era. The rigid white body and blank face offer almost no individual detail, yet the hairpiece immediately communicates a different visual identity from the hat-wearing male-coded figures common in the same system. It is an early example of LEGO using silhouette rather than printed anatomy to distinguish characters. The limitations are also revealing: before movable arms, grasping hands, and detailed faces, even gender presentation depended heavily on a single accessory. Within a few years, the articulated minifigure would vastly expand that vocabulary, but this figure shows the design problem LEGO was already trying to solve.
