Mysterious Ronin

MinifiguresOfficial LEGO

Released in 2026 as part of Collectible Minifigures Series 29, the Mysterious Ronin initially appears to be an original wandering warrior—but LEGO’s designers have confirmed that the figure is actually an alternate version of Lloyd, the Green Ninja from NINJAGO.

Created as part of NINJAGO’s 15th-anniversary celebrations, the concept imagines Lloyd following a very different path from the character seen in the main storyline. LEGO Minifigures Design Lead Esa Nousiainen described him as Lloyd from an alternate timeline in which he is alone, explaining the name “Mysterious Ronin.” His identity is intentionally understated rather than announced outright, leaving longtime NINJAGO fans to recognize him through visual clues.

Those clues are difficult to miss once you know what to look for. The blond hair, vivid green eyes, dark-green clothing, and familiar ninja-inspired details all point back to Lloyd, but this is a visibly older, harder-edged interpretation. His clothing appears worn and layered, with dark armor, weathered straps, muted colors, and concealed features giving him the appearance of someone who has spent years traveling without the protection of the ninja team.

The term “ronin” traditionally describes a samurai without a master, making the title particularly appropriate for this version of Lloyd. Rather than standing alongside Kai, Nya, Cole, Jay, and Zane, this Lloyd is imagined as a solitary warrior whose history has diverged from the established NINJAGO timeline.

Importantly, LEGO has not established this alternate Lloyd as part of the main NINJAGO story. The Collectible Minifigures team created the concept independently as a “what if?” interpretation, and the designers have said that whether the NINJAGO storytelling team ever chooses to use this version in future stories is up to them. For now, he exists as a glimpse into a path Lloyd might have taken rather than a canonical future for the character.

That makes the Mysterious Ronin unusual among original Collectible Minifigures. He is not simply an archetype inspired by samurai cinema or Japanese history; he is a disguised alternate-universe interpretation of one of LEGO’s most recognizable modern characters.

Series 29 therefore hides a NINJAGO anniversary tribute in plain sight. To a casual collector, he is a mysterious wandering swordsman. To someone familiar with Lloyd, the green eyes tell the whole story.
