Bonsai Tree
Bonsai Tree uses controlled asymmetry to suggest age, patience, and growth within a carefully bounded display. Its interchangeable foliage lets the tree shift from green leaves to pink cherry blossoms—and a closer look reveals that the blossoms are made from tiny LEGO frogs.

THE COLLECTOR’S NOTES
Its place in the collection.
This was my gateway set—the one that made me fall in love with LEGO. My son was building a lot at the time, and my assistant had suggested I get a plant for my office. I wasn’t eager to keep a real one alive, but I had seen the Bonsai Tree and decided to give it a try. I loved building it: shaping the trunk, adding the leaves, and pouring the tiny pieces into the pot to make the gravel. It still has a special place on my desk. It’s one of my favorite sets, partly because of how it looks, but mostly because it reminds me where my love of LEGO began.
